TIPS TO TRAVEL TO CANADA

When to go to Canada
The high season in Canada covers the summer months, from June to August, when warm temperatures and sunlight invade the country, making even the north undo for a short period of time. However, this period has its logical consequence in the prices of accommodation, which rise, on average, 30%.

Winter also has a large influx of tourists, especially in the villages near the most popular ski resorts.

May is a good month to visit the country, because the prices are not yet so high and the weather, while cool, is pleasant.

Documentation to Visit Canada
Since 2016, the only requirement for traveling as a tourist to Canada - in addition to the current passport - is to be in possession of the electronic travel authorization eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization). This authorization is required for those who enter the country by air and do not have a permanent residence card in the country or a valid Canadian visa.

Requesting and obtaining the eTA is very simple: just fill out a form on the website of the Ministry of Immigration prior to travel and pay the fee of 7 Canadian dollars. This authorization is electronically linked to the passport, so it is not necessary to print anything. Therefore, however, its validity will be 5 years or until the traveler's passport ceases to be valid.

Winter Sports in Canada
Winter sports and adventure are the great tourist attraction of Canada. Its immense network of natural parks makes the country the perfect setting for practicing alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or climbing, among other activities.

The authorities of the country recommend to be informed of the climatic conditions and of security before undertaking any exit, mainly to avoid the risk of avalancha. Another preventive measure that is advisable to take is a travel insurance that includes among its coverages the practice of these sports, including search and rescue.

Medical Assistance in Canada
There is no agreement between our country and Canada on health care, so it is not free for Spaniards, even in cases of urgency. On the contrary, medical care has very high prices.

For this reason, although not mandatory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation strongly recommend to all Spanish travelers to have travel insurance that includes extensive coverage of medical care in cases of illness, accident and repatriation.
